Editorial Standards
How we create, review, and maintain the medical information on this site — and why it matters to us.
Our editorial mission
CannaCheck UK exists to give patients clear, honest information about medical cannabis in the United Kingdom. We are an independent patient information resource — not a clinic, not a pharmacy, and not a product vendor. Everything we publish is written to inform, not to sell.
Our content covers qualifying conditions, the prescription process, UK clinic options, and the legal framework around medical cannabis. We do not promote specific products or treatments. We do not accept payment to favour any clinic or producer in our editorial copy. If a clinic or product appears on this site, it is because it is relevant to a patient's research — not because money changed hands.
We hold ourselves to the same standard of clarity and accuracy that we would want if we were the patient reading the page.
How we create content
Every article on CannaCheck UK is written by people with a working knowledge of UK healthcare regulation and medical cannabis prescribing. We do not use AI-generated text as a substitute for researched, human-authored content.
Our primary sources are:
- UK legislation — in particular the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 (Schedule 2), which governs the legal supply of cannabis-based products for medicinal use (CBPMs) in the UK
- NICE guidance — we follow National Institute for Health and Care Excellence clinical guidelines, including NG144 (Cannabis-based medicinal products, 2019) and condition-specific technology appraisals
- NHS policy and clinical commissioning guidance — including NHS England specialised commissioning policies for conditions such as intractable epilepsy
- MHRA guidance — the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency is the UK body responsible for licensing medicines; we cross-reference MHRA guidance on unlicensed medicines and patient safety
- Peer-reviewed research — where clinical evidence is cited, we reference published studies from indexed journals. We note where evidence is preliminary, limited, or contested
Where guidance is ambiguous or evolving, we say so plainly. We do not overstate the evidence base for medical cannabis. The science is developing rapidly and our content reflects that uncertainty rather than concealing it.
Medical review process
All pages that contain clinical information — including condition pages, prescribing guides, and any content describing treatment effects or eligibility criteria — are reviewed by a UK-registered healthcare professional before publication.
Our reviewers are either:
- Doctors registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), or
- Pharmacists registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
Reviewers check that clinical claims are consistent with current UK guidance, that sources are accurately represented, and that nothing on the page could reasonably mislead a patient about their eligibility, risks, or options.
We review existing content whenever NICE, NHS England, or the MHRA publishes updated guidance that affects the information on a page. The "last reviewed" date shown on each page reflects the most recent clinical review — not merely an editorial update to layout or metadata.
Independence and funding
CannaCheck UK is independently operated. Our editorial decisions are made without input from clinics, pharmaceutical companies, or cannabis producers. No external organisation can pay to influence what we write, how we rank clinics, or which conditions we cover.
We are transparent about how the site is funded: like many patient information websites, CannaCheck UK may earn a referral fee if a visitor navigates from this site to a clinic and subsequently books a consultation. This commercial relationship does not affect editorial content. Clinics do not receive preferential coverage, and negative information about a clinic is published in the same way as positive information.
If you have concerns about any conflict of interest in our coverage, please contact us directly.
Corrections and updates
We take accuracy seriously. If you believe any information on this site is incorrect, outdated, or misleading, please let us know as soon as possible. We will investigate promptly and publish a correction if one is warranted.
Contact us at: contact@cannacheck.co.uk
Corrections are made without delay once confirmed. We do not quietly alter pages — if a factual correction is material, we note what changed and when.
What this site is not
CannaCheck UK is a patient information resource. It is not a medical service. Reading content on this site does not create a doctor-patient relationship, and nothing published here constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, or a treatment recommendation.
In particular:
- We cannot tell you whether you will qualify for a medical cannabis prescription — that determination is made by a licensed specialist on an individual clinical basis
- We cannot advise you on dosage, formulation, or which product to use
- We cannot provide a second opinion on a clinical decision made by your healthcare team
- Information about a condition on this site does not mean that medical cannabis is appropriate treatment for your individual situation
Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making any decision about your treatment. If you are in crisis or need urgent medical help, contact NHS 111 or your GP.
